As the LBHS baseball team starts conditioning for the upcoming 2023 season, the team is excited for what’s to come.

After six starting seniors graduated last year, it is fair to say that the team needs to fill in the talent that left. Last year the team went 11-12 overall while going 11-3 in league. All preseason games were against very tough teams which resulted in losses. Entering league, the team beat Beyer 10-0 and went on a four game win streak until getting swept in a tough two game series against Mountain House. A loss also happened against Johansen after the series, but a lot of mistakes happened resulting is a 7-6 loss in extras. Then when facing Johansen again, the team beat them 20-1.

When league was at the half way point, there was a tournament held in Oakdale where we faced Oakdale, Enochs, and Turlock. Tigers lost all three games which did not help the team’s momentum going into the Pacheco series. The team knew they could not lose to Pacheco, so they got their stuff together to beat Pacheco 20-2 the first game and 15-2 in the second game. Once league came to an end, Tigers baseball was 11-3 which got them second place in league and got the thirteenth seed going against the fourth seed in playoffs.

The team was nervous but excited for the playoffs because it was a big game and they were also going against the 4th seed. When the game started, Tigers were first to bat and scored with a big triple to take the lead 0-1. Sadly, that was the only run we scored because the final score was 6-1. The game was close for the first three innings but the 4th seed began to run away with the game. It was a bad loss but getting into playoffs was an accomplishment after the team’s ups and downs throughout the season.

While the 2023 season is coming up in the next three to four weeks, the rainstorms this month have delayed the team from practicing on the field. With enough work from both pitchers and the team’s defense, the team’s potential can be as good or even better than last year.
