As a Senior playing soccer for the first time, it was an incredible experience. My coach and teammates were a big help throughout this season with helping me out on and off the field, fixing my mistakes and somewhat helping me improve. It was an honor to play under the wing of Coach Hernandez who gave me the opportunity to play as defense and backup goalie for my first and last year playing soccer in high school. She motivated me to continue playing and working hard to get better in my position.

I interviewed some of the senior soccer players about their experiences this year.

Arely Villa

Q: What is your favorite play or game from this season?

A: “My favorite play would have to be the moment I scored my goal. It was the perfect moment, I dribbled past two defenders, ten minutes left of the game, goalie dropped me but the ball went into the net and I scored!!”

Q: Your favorite memory from this season?

A: “My favorite memory of the season was the last bus ride home from our last away game, singing songs and laughing late at night.”

Q: Tell us about your soccer experience, and how long you’ve played.

A: “I absolutely love soccer. It’s my peace, and it was such an incredible experience to play with such great teammates and a great team! I played soccer my junior and senior year, and both years I was on Varsity.”

Q: Someone you’d like to thank for the season.

A: “I would like to thank my boyfriend, who was my biggest supporter and pushed me to become a great player!! Grateful for his support, which was showing up at my games and even though he wasn’t able to show up to my senior night, he came early to the stadium and hung up my poster and balloons.”

Jose Esquivel

Q: What is your favorite play or game from this season?

A: “My favorite play was definitely when I scored a goal this season; the goalie had blocked the ball then I kicked it when the chance came and scored on the other team.”

Q: Your favorite memory from this season?

A: “All the memories would have to include every bus ride with my boys and the score I mentioned in the last question.”

Q: Tell us about your soccer experience, and how long you’ve played.

A: “Overall, it’s been okay and I played a pretty decent ball.”

Q: Someone you’d like to thank for the season.

A: “I’d like to thank my guys on the team for always supporting and being there.”

Bryan Pantoja

Q: What is your favorite play or game from this season?

A: “My favorite play of the season, and I believe is everyone else’s favorite play was when Jose, who we call ‘Chicha,’ scored a goal. We had a shot free kick and the keeper blocked it but the ball bounced back into play and Chicha was there to finish.

Q: Your favorite memory from this season?

A: “My favorite memory of the season was when we had played Ceres, and beat them 3-1. It’s the favorite because it felt good to get back, last year they blew us out when we played so when we had finally beat them it felt great.”

Q: Tell us about your soccer experience, and how long you’ve played.

A: “I started playing the position of goalie, seriously, in my freshman year, so I have four years of experience.”

Q: Someone you’d like to thank for the season.

A: “I’d like to thank my teammates because they’ve given me the best season I could ask for.”

Thank you to the four Seniors who agreed to take my mini interview and talk about their soccer experience, this season has truly been the best for both girls and boys with amazing coaches and experiences. I wish you all the best after high school! Thank you Coach Hernandez again for an amazing season, the senior girls will definitely miss you and ‘ding dong,’ and a BIG thank you to the best bus driver ever, Phil. We love you!
