It is now 2024, and it has been four years since the country fell into full lockdown. A lot has changed since then.
To recap the Covid affect, from 2020 to early 2022, people’s lives were affected by the way Covid pioneered their lives and made living this way a “normal” way to live, even affecting kids who were born in this era. People grew used to wearing masks everywhere and having to order food to eat at home, even handing food to go was changed by people having to do non contact deliveries.
Schooling changed to being online for a year to hybrid the following school year with students going two days of the week for in-person classes. If students played sports they had to be Covid tested every week and had to wear a mask while playing. Most jobs were also affected by some businesses moving to online and employees working from home. Most jobs required people to wear a mask daily.
Four years have passed since this plague has broken out, and it is now almost forgotten or even just a little hiccup to people now. The 2023-2024 school year now has now been restored back to normal and masks have disappeared. Social distancing has yet to even exist now in classrooms as students are allowed to collaborate with each other fully and do hands-on activities. School schedules have also been reverted back to normal with students going to schools five days a week and hybrid schedules are nonexistent. Zoom classes are rarely even used and athletes do not need to wear masks or test no more.
But one thing for sure, there are some things that still reminds students and staff about those Covid years. From sanitizer dispensers and boxes of masks present in every classroom, posted stickers that say to wear a mask, signs directing traffic in the hallways, and some markers to know where to stand, keeping a good distance from the next person in the spot.
Some students say it is right for schools to still enforce social distancing and have precautions to protect students.
Tiger student Jasmin Nieves (12) was questioned on how she felt about school’s distancing away from some protocols and going back to normal so fast. She said, “Honestly I feel like it’s good that they took away some protocols. For example social distancing and being so separated in class. School is a social place where students can escape and want to learn. With Covid it’s just one of those things that you see once in a lifetime and can’t have a chip over your shoulder everyday, although it was dangerous to many. Now that we have been through it, we will have a better understanding on ways to stop it and live on.”
All people have different opinions on the topic of Covid, but in all, it affected someone’s life in some way. It truly will never be forgotten and will be talked about for years to come. The only thing now is how we as humans are going to react if another one happens.
