The Los Banos Tigers varsity boys volleyball faced off against Orestimba on February 29 for their first and only preseason game.
The Tigers started off hot, winning the first set 25-15 with good gameplay from everyone on the team and great communication from all players on the court. When they needed him to close out the set, Brandon Diaz (12) was able to close the set out with his float serves which he practiced a lot in the summer. When asked about his serves Diaz said, “With the way last season turned out, I wanted to come back better than ever and what better way to come back then perfecting one of the most important aspects of the game.”
Orestimba, however, did not go down without a fight. In the second set both teams gave it their all going point-for-point with each other causing the entire set to be an intense match. Orestimba called a timeout to try and ice and prevent Sebastian Rameriz (12) from using the momentum the Tigers gained and serving for game point, however, it didn’t phase him at all and with Rameriz’s float serve, the Tigers took set 2 away with a close score of 27-25.
The Tigers got away in the third set using the momentum from the previous sets and they dominated this set winning 25-14 running the new plays they’ve been working on in practice and doing the same routine old plays from last year.
With the season about to start, the Tigers are looking to lock in and set out to win as many game as possible this season. Next game is on March 12 at home.
