On April 11, the LBHS choir took a trip to Ohlone College to compete in the annual Forum Music Festival, an event that brings together choirs and bands from all over the country. Unlike local competitions, this one is judged on a national scale.
LBHS walked away with a Silver Rating, placing the group in the top 20% of high school choirs nationwide. On top of that, the choir’s Soprano section earned the Outstanding Musicianship Award, a big shout-out to their hard work and standout sound.
The choir isn’t slowing down either. Their Spring Concert is set for May 22 at 7 p.m. on campus, and they’ll also be performing at graduation. Plus, they’re heading to Disneyland for a fun end-of-year trip where they’ll get to perform and enjoy the park.
Looking ahead to next year, Mr. Nelson has big plans. He’s adding two periods of choir and keeping a busy performance schedule with five or six concerts throughout the year. And the best part? Everyone’s welcome to join, no experience needed.
“Anyone is welcome to join the choir, ” Nelson said. “And as for the trips, we take everyone, it’s not just the advanced class. ”
With new faces, more performances, and some big goals ahead, the LBHS choir is ready to keep the momentum going.
