The Creative Writing Club students attended Fresno State’s Young Writers’ Conference on May 6. There were over 400 participants from schools all over the Central Valley. Students submitted original works of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction in hopes of being published in Fresno State’s literary journal, Spectrum.
Out of hundreds of submissions, only 35 students were selected to have their work published. Three of the club members were selected.
- Claire Austinwon the Corrinne Clegg Hales Award for Poetry for her poem titled “Forgotten Star.”
- Leonardo Zamorareceived an honorable mention for his poem, “Fruits of the Valley.”
- Teresa Ayala Martinez received an honorable mention for her short story, “Cauterize Your Wounds.”
Students finished off their day taking a writer’s workshop in a college classroom, honing their creative writing skills. For many, this was their first time on a college campus.
Copies of Spectrum are available in the library for anyone who would like to look through them.
