This upcoming fall Escobar plans to take his education in the nursing pathway. He said, “I’m going for pre-health on the nursing route.” As commitment day starts to approach all seniors are committing to colleges. Johnny Escobar (12) has officially committed to California State University, Fresno. He hopes to attend this college to take the next step towards his future in the medical field.
As a senior, choosing a college is never easy, but for Escobar it came down to still being able to continue his education like he wanted and not be too far from home. He said, “I committed to Fresno State and what made me choose this school was the distance. It’s close to home and I still get a higher education.”
He explains how his decision came clear during his campus visit. Escobar said, “I realized when I went to tour it, I could see myself living there and having a couple of friends going there as well.” Being able to experience the on campus tour helped him picture his future there.
Escobar explains committing has brought him relief that he doesn’t have to stress anymore. He reflected on the pressure that comes with college applications.
The most challenging part about college applications for Escobar was doing it all himself as he is a first-generation college student in his family.
Despite figuring it all out himself Escobar shares how his mom has been his biggest supporter. He said, “My mom has been my supporter, she’s always said no matter where you go, I’ll support you.” It helped him stay confident with his decision.
Escobar’s high school experience has played a big role in his future goals. He credits his science teacher Ms. Alexis Barcellos for the guidance she gave him to accomplish his future career.
He said, “I think taking the different science class for sure helped.”
Looking ahead to his future Escobar is excited for his full college experience. He said, “I am most excited about experiencing and meeting new people and getting out of this small town to meet new people.”
Escobar’s goals for the next four years are set; he plans to finish nursing school, get his bachelors of science in nursing and eventually get experience in the ICU.
If you see Escobar make sure to congratulate him on his next big step in life.
