Los Banos High School offered up to 104 scholarships for seniors to help support their future goals and college dreams. Since January 19, students have been working hard to gather everything needed to apply. This includes letters of recommendation from teachers and coaches, unofficial transcripts, personal information, and other required documents.
Senior Carmello Smith said, “Scholarships are something that can be helpful during my time in juco. Money is something my family and I aren’t too fortunate to have much of. Even with my GPA being on the lower side, any type of revenue from scholarships helps.”
Even though students had more than a month to complete their applications, many found it challenging to finish everything on time. Some scholarships required extra materials like essays and additional forms. Applying to multiple scholarships meant even more writing and preparation, which could be time-consuming.
“Essays have really taken up a big part of my days, with some being around 300 words and some about two pages,” said Nicole Curutchgue. “They aren’t hard at all, just time-consuming. Applying to many different scholarships came with many essays. Even though it took long, hard work and discipline, I was able to accomplish all of them by the deadline.”
Thanks to Mrs. Souza’s help and support, students were able to stay on track while applying for all 104 scholarships. She reminded seniors about deadlines and made sure they had everything they needed, including personal statements, recommendation letters, transcripts, and additional essays. Because of her guidance, many seniors were able to complete their applications and submit everything before the Friday, February 27 deadline. Scholarship awards will take place on May 20 in the multi-purpose room beginning at 5:30 p.m. Families are invited to attend and congratulate all students who earned scholarships.
