The 2026 Miss May Day competition highlights two senior candidates, Jaci Bretz and Karley Rocha, who both bring leadership, passion, and strong community values to the stage. Each candidate shared how the title represents more than just recognition, but an opportunity to inspire others and represent their school with pride.
“I’ve always wanted to be Miss May Day since I was little, so it’s been something I’ve always dreamed of,” Karley Rocha said.
Rocha emphasized that the role is about being a positive influence and setting an example for younger students in the community. She explained that leadership comes from helping where it’s needed most.
“Miss May Day means being a positive influence to the younger kids and representing my community,” Rocha said.
She added that her leadership comes from stepping up when needed and staying organized to balance her responsibilities and commitments.
“I show leadership in my community by stepping up into roles that need more help,” Rocha said.
Bretz shared that her connection to fairs and agriculture inspired her to run for the title and continue a tradition she has admired for years.
“Since my father is an ag teacher, I have been going to the local fairs since I was a baby, and it’s been a dream of mine to be Miss May Day,” Bretz said.
Bretz explained that Miss May Day is not just a title, but a tradition that represents the fair, its history, and the future of the community.
“Miss May Day is not only a crown, sash, and title, it’s a tradition of the fair and a way to inspire future generations,” Bretz said.
Both candidates also completed a detailed application process that includes interviews and presentations, showing their dedication and preparation for the role.
With strong leadership backgrounds, personal passion, and commitment to their community, both Rocha and Bretz represent the true values of Miss May Day.
Stay tuned this Saturday, April 18, when the winner will be announced during the Merced County Spring Fair kickoff dinner.
