Seniors are working on their college applications this fall. They have to finish essays, meet deadlines, and apply for financial aid. Counselors and support programs help them, and planning ahead makes it easier to do well.
Seniors are moving along with their college applications this fall due December 1. Most of them are finishing essays, answering UC questions, and turning in forms on time. Doing all this with homework and sports can be hard, but students are learning to manage their time.
Applying to colleges is easier when students take it step-by-step and check off what they finish. College and career counselor Mrs. Natalie Vazquez said, “Starting early makes the process less stressful and helps students complete everything on time.” She also added that students should make sure their classes and grades meet UC and CSU requirements, plan their essays carefully, and double-check their applications for mistakes.
Vazquez stated, “One challenge counselors face is helping all seniors on time while balancing other duties, and some students miss scheduled visits or struggle to get teacher referrals.”
Students like Samantha Pantoja (12) and Nicole Curutchague (12) said having help makes writing essays and filling out financial aid forms much easier. Pantoja said, “I feel more confident knowing someone can answer my questions.”
Curutchague added, “It helps to have someone explain each step so I don’t get stuck.” Both students said balancing homework, sports, and applications is hard and can feel overwhelming at times.
The applications are going well for seniors who plan ahead, stay focused, and follow each step carefully. With the support they are receiving, planning, and hard work, students are finishing their applications.
To prepare for next year, juniors should make sure they know their Social Security number, stay active in clubs and sports, and complete their A–G coursework. They should also look for leadership opportunities and keep their grades strong to make the college application process easier during senior year.
