Thanksgiving is a special holiday for families to come together, share a meal, and give thanks for the people and moments that make life meaningful. Every family celebrates in their own unique way.
Some common Thanksgiving traditions include cooking a big turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie, and gathering around the table to share what everyone is thankful for.
Many families start the day by watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or football games, while others spend the morning cooking traditional dishes. Some enjoy baking pies, volunteering at food banks, organizing canned food drives, delivering meals to those in need, or simply spending quality time together before dinner.
Bryan Jimenez (12) explains how Thanksgiving means more than just food. Every year, his family celebrates with a fun tradition called “The Thankful Scavenger Hunt.” Before dinner, each family member hides small notes around the house with things they’re thankful for written on them. Everyone tries to find as many notes as they can before time runs out.
“It’s one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving,” Jimenez said. “We all end up laughing, and it reminds us of how lucky we are to have each other. It’s something small, but makes the day feel special.”
Whether it is a creative family activity, a shared meal, or time spent reflecting, Thanksgiving reminds everyone to appreciate what they have and make lasting memories with loved ones.
