Christmas break is one of the best times of the year since school finally slows down, everyone gets a chance to relax, and students can enjoy fun traditions with family, friends, and the holiday season.
One of the most popular things students do during Christmas vacation is travel, even if it is just a short drive. Many people visit family, go on quick winter trips, or explore fun spots close to home.
For students, driving to the Merced Mall is a super common activity. It is a great place to walk around, shop for gifts, grab food, or just hang out with friends when everyone’s off school.
Another major part of Christmas break is holiday food. Ariana Padilla (12) talked about baking cookies, decorating gingerbread houses, making hot chocolate, and helping her family prepare big holiday meals.
A lot of students also enjoy holiday entertainment, like watching Christmas movies, going to local light displays, or checking out winter events. Some families take a short trip to San Jose during break since the city has tons of things to do, going to the malls, Christmas light shows, ice skating spots, and fun downtown holiday activities. These kinds of outings help everyone get into the holiday spirit.
Another huge tradition is shopping and exchanging gifts. Students like going to stores for last minute presents, and some wait all year for the after Christmas sales. Gift giving is fun not only because of what people get, but because it brings everyone together.
One of the best parts of Christmas break is simply relaxing. Sleeping in, catching up on shows, playing video games, and hanging out with friends are things to look forward to the most. With no homework or early mornings, the break gives everyone a chance to recharge before the new year begins.
Alana Arnold (12) “I tend to play video games, sleep, and catch up on missing assignments during break.”
Christmas break is a perfect mix of traveling, eating, celebrating, and resting, making it one of the most enjoyable times of the year for students.
