The Career Fair was held on January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. for all students enrolled in history classes.
Careers fairs are valuable opportunities for students to connect with multiple employers and learn about the interview process to further understand what kind of future they want. Career Fairs are about discovering new industries, finding valuable connections, and laying the groundwork down for a fulfilling and impactful career that will align. Navigating today’s competitive job market can often feel like searching with countless online applications sometimes leading to lack of personal connections.
Natalia Vasquez assesses students strengths and weaknesses through students behavior, academic performance, GPAS, and transcripts. The career fair brought certain types of questions, like what types of schooling is required, how a student can apply, and other pathways are available. Students may be wondering how to make the most out of their time at a career fair? Students could be asking questions or hitting all the tables to see what sparks their interest. Most common questions students ask at career fairs are do I need to go to school? What kind of degree? How to apply? Where to apply? What is the pay?
To efficiently follow up with someone after meeting they will have a sign up sheet with emails to further share information. Mr. Charles Garber said, “Teachers expect that there will be a variety of different jobs represented at the fair. We will bring our students and encourage them to check out different booths, and give suggestions to students based on what we have learned they are interested in.”
Garber said, “To improve career fair the most beneficial way would be to have more booths from more professionals to diverse careers.”
The goal of the career fair is to show students a variety of career paths to choose from as well as learn the paths to enter these careers.
Garber said, “Having a career is definitely helpful for students, especially for those who do not know what they want to do yet.”
Mr. Tomas recommends students to have as much involvement in extracurricular activities as possible: Sports, clubs, join programs that help you develop your communications skills. Be more involved in school, go to as many events as possible.
Career fairs are the place for students to have an open mind about different career paths. Students should have general questions prepared to ask the presenter about what it takes to be in that particular field.
Tomas said, “Make a good impression, dress up a little, don’t look like a bum, first impressions are very important. Speak clearly and look the person in the eye when you talk to them.”
When tailoring a resume or portfolio, make clear what your strengths and abilities are. List accomplishments and express how willing you are to work hard. Benefits of attending different career fairs allow students to obtain more information about other careers available.
Tomas stated, “Do not be negative about yourself, stay positive! Talk professionally, do not slang your words or profanity. You want to come across educated. Do not give personal details about issues in your life, You are not talking to a counselor.”
