With prom around the corner the cost of prom can be stressful for people. That is why S-Club organized a Prom Closet with Pacheco High School, where students can find free formal dresses, suits, shoes, and even accessories for their special night.
S-Club worked hard to make this happen. Mr. Miguel Herrera, club advisor said, “ We have about 20 volunteers who actively participated by staying after school to help.”
The responsibilities S-Club takes on when organizing this event included promoting the event, setting up the space, collecting donations, and helping run the event itself. These responsibilities help members work together to accomplish meaningful goals for this and future events.
S-Club had also partnered with a local business, Johnnie’s Cleansers on 6th Street In Los Banos. They are offering free dry cleaning for any dress or suits selected from the Prom Closet. This partnership helps students with the process of being ready for prom.
Support for this event has been strong. Students, teachers, and the community have all contributed to help make Prom Closet possible.
However Herrera said, “Spreading awareness has been one of the biggest challenges for s-club.” To address this, S Club members continued to promote the event through social media, word of mouth, or digital flyers.
After the event, any leftover items will not go to waste but are stored away for next year’s prom closet. Although there’s time some items may be donated to local organizations that can continue helping people in the community.
When organizing this event Herrera said, “I hoped students learned important lessons about planning events, working together, and giving back to their community.”
Most importantly this event gives students the opportunity to feel excited about prom and feel good.
