As acceptance letters start rolling in this spring, seniors are finally seeing the results of years of hard work. After balancing classes, extracurriculars, and the stress of applications, students across campus are getting into the colleges they’ve been working toward for years.
For most seniors, the college process didn’t just start this year, it’s been building since freshman year. From taking harder classes to joining clubs and staying involved, students have been trying to stand out while also figuring out what they actually want to do in the future. Many students also rely on meeting with their counselors and staying in touch with the career counselor to make sure they are meeting requirements and completing everything correctly throughout the application process. Applications themselves take time too, especially with essays that ask students to share personal stories and goals.
Bradley English (12), who was accepted into UC Irvine, said challenging himself made a difference. “My dream school has always been Irvine and I feel like I got in because I always pushed myself to try new things and take harder classes in a variety of different subjects,” English said. “I also think the writings I had to submit in my application played a huge part because they told a story and explained why I wanted to become a counselor.”
Melanie Rodriguez (12) shared a similar experience when applying and getting into Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. “I was really mesmerized by the campus, especially the buildings and architecture, and I knew I wanted to do whatever it took to get in, whether it be taking AP classes, extra college classes, or participating in extracurriculars, and that hard work paid off,” Rodriguez said.
Even though getting accepted is exciting, it also reflects how much effort students put in behind the scenes. From staying up late to finish assignments to stressing over deadlines, the process isn’t easy. But for many seniors, it’s worth it when they finally see that acceptance letter.
As more decisions come out, seniors are realizing that every acceptance represents years of effort, growth, and stepping out of their comfort zones. What looks like just a letter actually has a whole story behind it.
