“You’ve got a deal” was the phrase sophomore students wanted to hear when they stepped into the role of entrepreneurs and marketers as they designed creative products and pitched them to judges in a Shark Tank Showcase on March 24 during Pride Time.
Students from Ms. Benton, Ms. Zorra, and Mr. Smith’s English classes were studying rhetorical strategies. From catchy slogans to emotional appeals, students worked to convince judges that their product was the next must-have item. During the showcase, teams presented their ideas, demonstrated their products, and used techniques such as ethos, pathos, and logos to win over the judges.
Even if the phrase, “For that reason, I’m out” was uttered from the judges, the event highlighted students’ creativity, collaboration, and ability to apply persuasive communication skills in a real-world setting. For this reason, these students are winners.
