The school year is coming to a close, with graduation on June 5. To get some insight on how the school year went and what the future might hold, seniors Joanna Silva and Micah Madera were interviewed.
It is no secret that students are put under a lot of stress during their last year of high school. The decisions that must be made can be overwhelming at times.
Madera said, “The most stressful part of this year would probably be figuring out what I will be doing next after high school.”
To be making such life changing decisions as an 18 year old, it is important to have a support system both at home and in school. Our interviewees share who they leaned on throughout the year.
“Mrs. McCullough and Ms. Landeros helped a lot, they always provided a safe space for me to just destress and be myself,” said Silva.
Madera said, “The staff that helped me so much would be Mr. Kline and Ms. Hayworth. They know how much pressure falls upon us seniors and they help guide us throughout the year.”
Being such a stressful year, seniors are also given many opportunities to let loose and enjoy their last days in high school.
Silva shares her excitement for a staple senior activity. “The most exciting part of this year for me is Grad Nite! I can’t wait!”
When asked what her favorite memory from the year is, Madera said, “Making so many more meaningful memories with my classmates one last time.”
Madera plans on attending Merced College to work towards becoming a phlebotomist. Silva has committed to Merced College as well, with the goal to transfer after two years.
As both a stressful and fun year for students, it seems as though seniors are ready to graduate while also reminiscing about their time at LBHS.
