“I am excited about the prospect of becoming a part of the team in Los Banos and I am looking forward to facilitating the best educational experiences and outcomes for our students.” – Dr. Mark Marshall

The Board of Trustees made its decision with input gathered from all key stakeholder groups in the District regarding the desired qualities of the next Superintendent. Sally Frazier and Don Iglesias from the firm of Leadership Associates assisted the Board in the search.

Based on the feedback received from parents, staff, and community members, the Board was looking for someone who is a collaborative leader with success as an educational leader and who will be committed to the Districts’ mission, vision, core values, and community.

Dr. Mark Marshall, 51, was born and raised in Houma, Louisiana. He has served as an educator for three decades. Prior to his seven year tenure in the Eastside Union School District, five as Superintendent and two as the Director of Student Services and Special Education, he successfully worked in a wide range of school districts across the country holding the positions of Special Education Teacher, Special Education Supervisor, Assistant Principal, Middle School Principal, and High School Principal.

The Eastside Union School District has made great strides in several areas over the past five years under Dr. Marshall’s leadership, including improvements in student achievement, the overall learning environment for students, and fiscal stability. Tierra Bonita Elementary School also became the first school in the district’s history to receive accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Schools of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Additionally, Cole Middle School was named an AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction. Dr. Marshall was also instrumental in facilitating the school district’s inaugural Educational Foundation.

Some of Dr. Marshall’s other career highlights include recognition as one of Newsweek Magazine’s top 1500 high schools; receiving a Governor’s Academic Improvement Award, securing competitive state and federal grant monies at the middle school level, and establishing a successful Air Force JROTC program.

Dr. Marshall earned his BA and M.Ed. Degrees in Special Education at Nicholls State University; he completed his administrative certification and Ed. S. Degree at the University of West Georgia, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Auburn University. In his spare time, Dr. Marshall enjoys music, traveling, and working out.

“We were extremely fortunate to have had several outstanding and highly qualified candidates. After a day of interviews, call back interviews, follow-up questions, and hours of Board deliberations, Dr. Marshall’s experience as a sitting superintendent, track record of improving student achievement, and how he embraces the community in which he lives made him our top choice. We are very excited and look forward to having Dr. Marshall as our next educational leader.”– Anthony Parreira, Board President

Dr. Marshall will begin his work as Superintendent of the Los Banos Unified School District on July 1, 2017.
