Students Prepare for Academic Decathlon

Paulo Campos and Colten Graham

The Academic Decathlon team started training for the annual competition held in February. Mr. Barry Reardon leads the team and trains the participants to go out and perform to the best of their ability.

The topic this year is Africa and categories will cover Math, Science, Music, Art, Literature and Language, speech, interview, essay, economics, social science, and the super quiz, a collection of questions on all the subjects about Africa.

Mr. Reardon said, “Yeah, I think the topic Africa is going to be real interesting, there’s a lot of culture and history.”

Mr. Reardon has been in charge of the Academic Decathlon since 2014, and has continued to have new students participate in the competition. He chooses nine students at max to compete at the official competition.

Academic Decathlon has opportunities for scholarships and awards for students.  If students are interested in learning about Africa and competing in various subjects through the Academic Decathlon, see Mr. Reardon in Room 10.  Meetings are held on Thursdays at lunch.
