CTE Grants Help School Programs

The Los Banos High School wood shop recently purchased a new saw mill Named the Wood Mizer 2000.

The New Mill allows the wood shop students to learn more of the woodworking process than just purchasing planks of wood from the local hardwood store.”Its a great new addition to the shop because now we can recycle old trees from around the campus,”  said Mr. Hill.

The money for the new equipment came from what’s called as the CTE Grant which stands for California Technical Education Grant which is basically just a grant for schools to improve their teaching technology.

Our school also bought three new trucks for the Ag Department; however, the Grant is not limited to Ag classes.  The Computer lab received new computers.

The entire school district is the entity which receives the grant and we have received a total of around one and a half million dollars. The use of the money is determined by need so “most of the grant is going into the Pacheco Ag barn,” said Mr. Bretz, FFA adviser. The rest of the money went into the needs of our Tech Education.
