Top 5 Halloween Movies to Scare You

Luke Young, Staff Reporter

It’s that time of the year again Tigers! Time to get spooky! Get ready for candy, costumes, and scary Halloween movies. Speaking of which, scary movies really can set the mood for Halloween. That’s why I’ve put together a list of my personal favorite Top 5 Halloween Movies.

First on my list is Evil Dead. The plot of the movie is a group of friends camp out in a cabin in the woods, and they release an ancient evil that terrorizes them. This movie also kind of doubles as a comedy. Personally, this is one of my all time favorite scary movies, and I highly recommend this movie to watch on Halloween.

Next, we have Evil Dead (2013) remake. Not as good as the original, but I still think this movie was good. It has the same plot as the 1981 original, but more modernized. In this remake, there are a lot more gory scenes, so beware. But if there’s one thing this movie did right, it’s the suspense. I do hope that you watch the original first, and then give the remake a try.

The third of my favorite movies is Drag Me to Hell. If you’re into thrillers, this movie is for you. This 2009 horror movie is honestly pretty great with scenes that you can either find them funny or disturbing. The plot is a woman rejects an old lady’s request for an extension on her home loan. As revenge, the old lady puts a curse on the women. The movie shows the effects of the curse to the women, and her desperate attempts to break the curse.

Second to last we got Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.  This story revolves around a little girl who moves into a 19th century home with her family. The little girl then discovers a dark secret in the basement that releases dark dwelling creatures that have terrible intentions for her and her family. This movie was terrifying when I saw it, and the creatures that were shown were also very, very scary.

Last, but definitely not least, we have Mama. The plot is that two sisters vanish in the woods only to be found years later. The two girls are taken in by the uncle of the two sisters’ father. But when they returned, something followed them. I really liked this movie because of the jump scares and how scary the ghost is shown in this movie.

There you go, that is my personal Top 5 scariest horror movies to watch on Halloween. I really do hope that you enjoy these movies. Happy Halloween Tigers!
