As the Winter sports season comes to an end for some teams, our Los Banos Girls Varsity Basketball team will continue on to go into playoffs. As they finish league with a 9-1 record, with an impressive 45-40 win over Patterson High School, they finished 1st as Co-Champions of the league sharing the title with Patterson. Their win over Patterson is what tied them in the league.   As Patterson was undefeated before the final game against Los Banos, our varsity team showed them who the better Tiger was.

The game was full of mixed emotions as the Tigers battled back in forth trying to prove who wanted it more. Senior and Head captain of the team, Erika Gutierrez, had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore, Sienna Hampton had an impressive 17 rebounds. Junior and team captain, Amelia Smith had 7 points and 7 assists to her players. All of these players had a big impact on the Tigers big win.

“I told my girls we have to take this game seriously if we want a chance in the playoffs so we treated it as if it were our first playoff game,” Head Coach Danny Crosby explains. “This was probably our best game we’ve played this season having the advantage of being at home.”

Gutierrez added, “It was a big win for us. Especially for our seniors as it would be our last time ever playing them in WAC.”

As of right now we are not sure who they will be playing in their first playoff game or where they stand in the section. In the upsetting loss of 44-41, the Los Banos Tigers will be going in as the number two team for WAC and Patterson will go in as the number one team.

Our Lady Tigers will know who they play for their first game on Thursday, February 15, so stay alert and ready to support your girls basketball team.

An Honorable Mention for our varsity boys basketball team who will also be in the playoffs.
