Boys Tennis Team Outlook

Is the boys tennis team destined to reach playoffs this year?

With an upsetting loss in the second round playoffs of 2017, spirits are high; however, much of the power players graduated that same year. With not very many new players, the boys team may lose steam in the upcoming years, but with almost a full team of returning players this season may be the best yet. The boys tennis team relies heavily on their number one player junior, Quentin Barcellos, and the team’s season will be previewed with a scrimmage on Thursday, February 22 at LBHS.

Barcellos has high hopes for his team, saying, “I believe we will do well this year.  We have a very strong singles and doubles.  This, added on with the newcomers who came in this year, is the reason I believe we’ll do well this year.”

The players have been battling the past week to get to their level of play in what’s known as challenge matches. These matches are played to ensure that each player will be faced with an opponent of equal skill. The scrimmage will be played against Firebaugh and the team will know their strong players by this time.

The boys team awaits the famed Fresno tournament which is the true test of a team´s ability. Last year Tigers placed 3rd of 4 leagues which each leagues had 4-5 teams. This year they are striving to beat their record and take first. After this tournament the teams begin playing their actual league games and the boys have a good season ahead of them. Most of the other schools have lost their best players to graduation and their abilities were cut but thanks to a large number of seniors and juniors on our team, the tigers stand strong!

Come out to support the team, February 22.
