Plans Begin for Spring Break

Spring break is almost here.  This year the week off from school will happen in the beginning of April. Students are anxious for the opportunity to get away and they are making plans to enjoy themselves.

Spring break means something different to everyone. To some, it means sleeping in and enjoying the time off from school. To others, especially high school and college students, it means it’s time to party. The idea of partying during the week off for spring break was made popular in the 80s thanks to MTV, and this tradition continues to this day.

“I’m hitting the books,” says Bryant Flores (12), “I need to get serious about what I’m going to do after high school. As much as I’d love to go to the beach or something, I think I’ll devote a bit of time to studying.”

Other people, such as Anthony Campos (12), plan to spend their time relaxing and sleeping in. “If I don’t have work, I’m gonna sleep in. A week off from school sounds great right now, I wish it was sooner,” says Campos.

Elena Gutierrez, senior, says that she is going to study for her AP tests. Gutierrez states, “I need to study because I have to take five AP tests this year. I’m also going to spend time with my family because I had to get caught up in all my classes recently and I haven’t spent some time with them,” says Gutierrez.

Manuel Martinez, senior, says, “I’m gonna relax and play games over spring break.” Martinez is ready to play games on his PS4 with his friends online, because he has not been able to play until he got his grades up.

We asked students what their ideal destinations are for spring break. Olivia Sanchez (9) says, “I’m going to a comic book convention during the week of spring break. I’m going to spend two days there, and I’m going to dress up as a different character on both days.”

Kalia Daniels (12) says, “The beach is the only place I want to go. It’s too hot in the summer. By April it will be the perfect temperature.” She is not the only one who wants to go to the beach.

Coach Nate Jones of the track throwing team says he would like to visit the beach with his family on the week off. “If I’m not coaching little league, I’m taking the family to the beach,” says Coach Jones.

Spring break starts March 29 until April 8.
