The LBHS Drama club presented The Little Mermaid on March 16 and 17  in the multi-purpose gym.

The audience was treated to music, colorful props, and talented students who created a memorable evening.  Ariel, played by Tessa Tillman, 12, said, “The audience expected a regular production until those curtains opened. It was a colorful and well put together play.” Tilman has been in drama for two years and has been in two plays and two musicals. She stated she attains her character by always being “confident with every note I sang. Tons of girls tried out for that role, but I was so excited I was the first choice.”

Watching a play looks and sounds like all fun, but when it really gets down to it, it can get pretty intense. Matthew Rivera, who played King Triton, said there can be “occasional head butting” but overall “not a bad time” during play rehearsals.   Even Tilman stated, “Most of the time rehearsal is fun, but when we get down to the last two weeks, everyone is very serious.” In the end, all that really matters is that the audience had fun and enjoyed the play, and so does the cast members.

Some of the cast included:

Ariel – Tessa Tilman (11th grade)

Flounder – Olivia Sanchez (9th grade)

Prince Eric- Jacob Carreiro (10th grade)

Ursula-Meagan Thompson (12th grade)

Sebastian-Carlos Mendez (11th grade)

Flotsom-Ariana Ramirez (12th grade)

King Triton – Matthew Rivera (12th grade)

Scuttle – Melanie Ricardo (12th grade)

This play was quite fun and uplifting, for both the audience and cast had fun during the performance. The costumes that were used were very realistic looking and colorful, while representing the characters very well. Tilman’s performance was enjoyable, with her voice perfectly pairing that of the ‘89 Disney movie version of Princess Ariel sung by Jodi Benson.

King Triton had a couple of accidents on set including when his crown fell and he caught it and getting stuck in the curtain. Matthew Ziemba, 11, described them as “purely hilarious as an audience member.”

If you went to the play, please write a comment on a memorable highlight or praise your favorite cast member.
