Walk-Out Conducted Peacefully

Ian Jordan and Patrick Martinez

On March 14,2018 middle school and high school students were staging a school walkout in protest of Parkland, Florida shooting and the relaxed gun control in the United States.

Our own group of students gathered in the quad area on to stage their protest. The crowd of 75 students gathered and had 17 minutes of silence for each of the 17 victims killed in Parkland.

Ms. Latta had the staff collect 17 whites balloons to be released into the air after the moment of silence. Ms. Latta was quoted speaking on how “I’ve never been more proud to be a Los Banos Tiger than right now.”

Most of the administrators there were all very pleased with the turn-out of the function. “It is excellent, very well organized. It was very symbolic and I am very proud,” said Dr. Mark Marshall, our school district’s superintendent.

It was not an actual walkout like some other schools had done. Instead our students held a very respectful as well as peaceful event.  After the event, students returned to class.
