On March 21, creative writing students attended the 38th Annual Young Writers’ Conference at Fresno State.   Four students were recognized for their creative writing and were published in the conference’s journal.

Hannah Padron, 11 received the Philip Levine Award for her poem, “reverie.”

Faith Zako, 11 received the San Joaquin Literary Association Award for her prose piece “Dear Fellow Dandelion.”

Paulo Campos, 11 was an honorable mention for his poem, “Flowers.”

Harley Ann Rasmussen was selected as an honorable mention in the 2018 Coastal Art & Poetry Contest for her poem “California Dreaming.” This contest was sponsored by the California Coastal Commission and there were about 2,600 entries for the contest this year, with ten winners and 37 honorable mentions.

Patrick Martinez, Angelyss Rincon, Faith Zako, Katie Posey, Stephanie Galvan, Sebastian Greer, Paulo Campos, Jessica Morales, Caleb Root, Sophia Castro, Malina Duran, Hannah Padron, and Harley Ann Rasmussen.

Mrs. DeGough, creative writing club advisor, spoke about her reaction, and said “I’m really excited, happy that their work is recognized, and I’m glad your juniors so you can get more challenges… and I hope we can published in more categories like fiction.”
