Junior class member, Faith Zako will be presenting her poem, “Statement” at Fresno State’s The Andrés Montoya Symposium, on Saturday, April 14.  Her poem received an honorable mention award.

The event, hosted through the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing, in collaboration with Letras Latinas showcases the life and work of the late poet, educator, and Fresno State alumnus Andrés Montoya.

The Your Song: Student Poetry Contest was part of the symposium asking Central Valley high school students and college students to write creative pieces inspired by the work of this poet, Montoya.  Zako connected to the his poem, “declaration.”  Zako was one of two high school students selected out of all the contest submissions.

The contest judges were poets Marisol Baca, author of Tremor, from Three Mile Harbor Press; and David Campos, author of Furious Dusk, from the University of Notre Dame Press.
