Spring Music Recap

Hannah Padron, Staff Reporter

These last few months have been like Christmas for music fans like myself, as some of our generation’s most beloved artists have been dropping albums and singles almost every week.

But by far the biggest and most anticipated of these releases is “beerbongs & bentleys” from Post Malone.

I will admit that it took me a few listens to warm to this album, for I didn’t feel the same immediate love for it as I did for his previous work, “Stoney.”

But now I love it just the same. Malone’s musical ability proves that he shouldn’t only be labeled as a rapper, but as more of a rockstar as well. While most of the songs within the album have the same cliche themes of Money, Cars and Women, (“Same B*tches” and “rockstar ft. 21 Savage”).

The album still has a more vulnerable and tender vibe compared to most in his genre. Songs like “Stay” and “Blame it on me” prove this. The chords of the acoustic guitar and the dark bass add dreamlike feelings to the songs and emphasize the strained emotions within his voice.

In the end, Malone is saying that behind the glitz and glam of fame within the industry, and the wild lifestyle that comes with it, can actually be really lonely, and that happiness isn’t guaranteed.

Favorite Song: “Zack and Codeine”

But by far, my favorite of these releases is Kali Uchis’ “Isolation.” And this full length debut was very well worth the long wait.

First of all, I honestly love every song on this album.

Anyone that listens to Kali knows that she has a very distinct sound, and this is evident throughout the album. She managed to have an album filled so many different creative talents, and still keep everything her own style. On the album, she has help from Kevin Parker of Tame Impala on the song, “Tomorrow,” and Tyler the Creator featuring Bootsy Collins on “After the Storm.”

My favorite aspect of the album was the incorporation of latin pop in her songs, such as in “Nuestro Planeta,” and “Tyrant” (ft. Jorja Smith).

I think this will elevate to be one of my favorite albums of all time.

Here are some other recent releases that are also amazing:

– J Cole’s newest album, “KOD”

– a dreamy collaboration between Khalid and Billie Eilish called, “Lovely”

-”Ye vs. the People” (ft. T.I.) which is Kanye West’s response to his recent controversial  comments about President Trump

-Troye Sivan’s most recent single off of his upcoming album, “Bloom.”

-The internet’s favorite, “Yee Haw” kid Mason Ramsey released a song that I’m afraid to play in public called “Famous.”
