Senior Shares Thoughts on Joining the National Guard

Jorge Ortiz, Staff Reporter

I am a senior leaving to the National Guard soon after I graduate. This has been a plan of mine for a few months now. It sounded like a good idea to join the military in order to pay for college.

I joined the National Guard a few months ago so I already have a few months off my required time. Since I have been enrolled,  I have been going to trainings once a month as well as getting paid for my time.  I can not wait to be part of the military and enter the “real world.”

I think the military will help me a lot in life. I believe that the military will make me more confident as well as give the money I need to start my adult life. I also hope to find what part of the medical field I like the most. I plan to be a doctor once I get out of the military. That is why I chose to be a combat medic. I will have first hand experience in medical and educated in it already.

I have already learned some of the things I need in basic training. In the weekend trainings, they taught me what I need to memorize at basic level as well as what I will be doing at training. The days are very organized with the same sleep and wake up time as well as lunch and breakfast. Everyday presents challenges and learning opportunities, which I am eager to participate in and work through for myself.

Junior and senior students can join basic training.  For more information contact a recruiter or me.
