The 2018-2019 Academic Decathlon season is just starting and it’s not too late to join the fun. Cutoffs for joining are in mid September, and anyone interested in learning about the 1960’s, the 2018 theme for the competition, are encouraged to join.

The Decathlon is made up of a series of tests, speeches, and interviews as well as a super quiz at the University of California, Merced in February.  The Academic Decathlon Club participants, as well as team members will learn about the 1960’s to prepare for the seven subject tests, in areas of economics, music, social science, math, science, art, and literature, as well as a super quiz.

The club is lead by Mr. Reardon, teacher of AP Human Geography and World History. Both Mr. Reardon and the club leaders, Paulo Campos, 12 and Sidney Carrigan, 12 hope to improve on this year’s team to hopefully overcome the school’s rival, Merced High.

Club supervisor, Mr. Reardon claims, “We have the most experienced team we’ve ever had.”

Help is always wanted, and low GPA members are also welcomed for the nine person team’s varsity section. “People who don’t always apply themselves but still have the knowledge of  great students,” as Carrigan puts it can still join to help the team.

So if you want to join, see Mr. Reardon in room 10.
