Easter is around the corner

Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this day Christians all over the world gather, go to church, and enjoy all the traditions this holiday brings with it. The date of celebration varies from March to April, depending on the date of the March equinox. This year, Easter Sunday will be on April 21. Easter Sunday marks the end of Lent, which is a 40-day period of fasting and reflection.

The celebration of Easter comes with many traditions. Most Christians begin the celebration with an Easter Vigil the night before, sometimes called Easter Eve or Holy Saturday. The most popular traditions are dying Easter eggs, the Easter bunny, and Easter baskets. Younger children enjoy Easter egg hunts. Many children love this tradition because they are given a basket of goodies. A common gift is a chocolate bunny.

Food also plays a big part on this holiday. Many families like to eat roasted lamb on Easter because it is a representation of the willing self-sacrifice of the perfect Lamb of God, Jesus. Other traditional foods you should definitely try this Easter would be glazed ham, potatoes, deviled eggs, as well as hot cross buns and other sweet breads.

Although Easter started as a religious holiday, it has become more a day for families to come together, enjoy food, and have a good time.
