Varsity Football Hosts Madera High Game

Our Los Banos Tigers Varsity football team hosted their first football game at the Loftin Stadium on August 26th, and came out victorious. Madera, the competitor, didn’t want the victory as much as our Tigers did. The Tigers worked long and hard to come out with the 35-20 win.

The weather was hot, but the players practiced every day after school in the heat so they can handle it. The first game of the season is always a big one. Our Tigers couldn’t have done it without the support that came from the stands. The Tiger Pride student section was very encouraging. LBHS Quarterback, Christian Corral says, “It’s so early in the season, and we’re already feeling all the love that comes from our fans.” They had music playing, signs in the air and lots of cheers. Besides the game, there was lots of entertainment around.

“I feel like this year, the students want to be more involved in supporting the team.” says Ally Franco, a senior at LBHS. At halftime, the cheerleaders put on a wonderful performance, and Mr. Barcellos, the athletic director, had all sorts of activities going on out on the track.

The captains of the team for the year are Scotty Crist, Gilbert Pena, Mason Leao, and Christian Coral. Christian Corral says that he loves being that guy that “everyone can depend on.”

“What I love most about this team is that we believe in every single player we have and that’ll go a long way,” says Mason Leao. And that is a very important aspect when it comes to sports.  The team seems to have a great bond and we all have a lot to look forward to this year!
