Want to be Organized? Start here!

Everyone wants to be organized, but many find it hard to keep up a certain schedule with their already busy ones. Personally, I always struggled with remembering events or keeping my papers together, but recently I found out a way to fix that problem. I made it my New Year’s Resolution to be organized and my methods have worked, so I’d like to share them with those who have the same issue I did.

The first step to being organized is to have a clean living area. This might be odd, but it’s a good step to start. I started off by cleaning my room out, giving away most of my items I never use and throwing away the useless items I let collected over the months. This helps you get in a better mood which can start the change for your new organized life.

The next thing I did was make a schedule. I downloaded an app on my phone and grabbed a new notebook and started writing out my schedule. The app I downloaded is called Checklist. This app allows you to add a bunch of items and check them off as you do them. I started by making folders for every day of the week and then added in what I needed to do for that day in the folder. For example, on Wednesday, I put to make my bed, water my plants, and draw. I keep that for every Wednesday and if something comes up, such as homework, I’ll add it in. For the paper schedule, I write a more general schedule since it’s much easier to have the schedule on my phone.

The final tip I have for you is to keep up the your schedule. If you want to be more organized and make the list but do nothing on it, it’s not very effective. Plus, it feels good when you finish a task and check it off your list. I also suggest to not overload your schedule because then it becomes stressful and overwhelming. It’s also very satisfying to look over your checklist at the end of the week and see all you accomplished.

Personally, I feel like I’m more organized now. I’ve kept this up since January and I haven’t stressed about due dates for projects or when a test would be because I would put it in my schedule and was well aware of it. This is the way I got myself organized with cleaning and my checklist, and it might not work for everyone, but it’s worth a try. I hope this will help motivate you to become more organized.
