Spring is Around the Corner, so Why Does the Weather Feel like We’re Already there?

Spring is around the corner! We have had 70 degree Fahrenheit weather almost every day, and next Friday the high for the day is supposed to be 81 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring starts March 19, 2020, so why does it feel like Spring already?

Well, the climate is changing extremely fast. Based on the temperature average for the Valley in California between 1981 and 2011, the temperature high should be around 61 degrees Fahrenheit, however the temperature average has been 73 degrees Fahrenheit for the past two weeks. That’s 12 degrees Fahrenheit over what the average should be. Next week the temperature will be 81 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 20 degrees Fahrenheit over the average for this time of year.

The weather is too warm for this time of year, so what is the predicted average for summer time?  In June the average temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and if California is already hitting those temperatures consistently in February, it is easy to imagine the temperature could be anywhere from 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

With this news, how should we prepare for the hot weather coming this spring and summer?

Firstly, when using water, try to limit your amount of usage. We are definitely going to need as much water as possible this summer! Ways to cut down on water usage are to…

  1. Cut down on shower time. Every minute you spend in the shower uses 4.5 gallons of water. Set a timer on your phone to help remind you to get out of the shower in a timely manner.
  2. When washing clothes, completely fill up your washing machine. Most modern washing machines use 15 to 30 gallons of water for each load of laundry. Cut down on the loads of laundry to save water and save on your water bills every month.
  3. When washing dishes, completely fill your dishwasher. Dishwashers use six gallons of water each time they run, so just like the washing machines, fill more so you can use less water and pay less for your bills!

Have a great Spring and Summer season, stay cool and do not forget to cut down on water usage.
