The Democratic Primaries Weeds Out Candidates

Who will be the one going against Trump?

Right now, it seems only two people are up for the fight. What are the primaries? These primaries are elections in which voters choose their preference over candidate in their respective parties, to go against the current President. The democratic primaries are currently ongoing and with super Tuesday passing, the road to number one is a bit close for two people. Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are about neck and neck on March 5, 2020. Biden was in the lead slightly (509) and Sanders right behind him (449). Every state has a number of pledged delegates, which depend on the state. The highest being California with 415 pledged delegates.

How are the other candidates doing other than Biden and Sanders? As the gap closes between most of the other candidates, many drop out. Just recently Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire had dropped out due to very little delegates. He had spent $500 million for his campaign and still dropped out. After he dropped out, he had also said he supported Joe Biden the most.  Andrew Yang, who presented the idea of $1000 a month to everyone, has also dropped out due to low votes as well. He plans to return back in 2024, and says he has a lot of experience now. Mayor Pete Buttigieg, the first openly gay candidate has dropped out recently, and had done pretty well out of most, at only age 38. Senator Amy Klobuchar also dropped out, just hours after Super Tuesday, where a lot of states vote on the same day. Senator Elizabeth Warren also just had dropped out shortly after the Super Tuesday results.

Who will win the democratic primaries? Currently the race is between either Sanders or Biden, although Biden is in the lead with plenty of states left and the decision could come down to a couple states left. Fivethirtyeight, a political website, predicts that the chances for Sanders winning are 1 in 12 (8%), and for Biden 3 in 10 (31%).

Although we still need to wait and see who wins in the end, the final battle will be winning against the current president Trump, for the democrats.
