Pio’s Picks: Predictions for Wild Card Weekend and more!

Pio Romo, Staff Reporter

With the 2020 NFL season coming to an end, it is officially time for the playoffs to begin. This means it’s time for my predictions. Here, I will make my calls for the Wild Card games this weekend, and perhaps the entire playoff bracket.

NFL Playoffs Bracket

Indianapolis Colts VS Buffalo Bills, Sat. Jan 9 2021 10:05 AM PST

This will be a good game to watch as the Buffalo Bill’s seemingly unstoppable offense clashed with the Colts’ all star defense. However, questions remain for the other sides of the ball. Can the Colts find consistency on offense? Can the Bills’ defense step up? My guess is that the Bills defense will step up, and depending on the play of the Colts’ offense, this game can either be a close one or a blowout. I choose the latter, with a score of 31-17 in favor of the Bills.

Los Angeles Rams VS Seattle Seahawks, Sat. Jan 9 2021 1:40 PM PST

A great NFC West battle will ensue surely, and the situation here is similar to the Bills-Colts game. The Rams have been looking inconsistent with their offensive play, especially with starting QB Jared Goff’s status still questionable. Seattle’s defense has went from worst to great in these last couple weeks, however, their offense seems to be on a slump. If Jared Goff is out, this will be a close win for the Seahawks. If he is ready to go, I’ll pick the underdog and choose the Rams to win a close one, 17-13.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers VS Washington Football Team, Sat. Jan 9 2021 5:15 PM PST

The Washington Football Team, with a 7-9 record, hold the worst record for a playoff team since the Seahawks also went 7-9 in the 2010 playoffs. The Football Team has a good offense and defense, narrowly winning the worst division in football this year. However, they face a star-studded team in the Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady, The Buccaneers’ star power is outrageous, and their defense is on a similar level. I expect the Buccaneers to show out on primetime, winning 35-20.

Baltimore Ravens VS Tennessee Titans, Sun. Jan 10 2021 10:05 AM PST

This game oughta be a very interesting one from a viewer’s perspective. This a rematch of last year’s divisional game, where the high-flying #1 seeded Ravens lost in embarrassing fashion to Derrick Henry and the Titans. What differs this year, is that the Ravens are not near the level they were last year, with inconsistency being a major issue. However, it seems they have found their groove as of late, so expect this one to come down to the wire. My guess is 30-28 in favor of the Titans, and it may come down to a last second field goal or even overtime.

Chicago Bears VS New Orleans Saints, Sun. Jan 10 2021 1:40 PM PST

I feel this one should not even be close. The Saints have been on fire lately, especially Alvin Kamara. However, it seems the entire RB room will be out with COVID, so this game might be a close one. The Chicago Bears have been really good as late, however once you look at the schedule it’s not as impressive. I’ll still pick the Saints to win this one, even with no RB’s, with a low score of 21-16.

Cleveland Brown VS Pittsburgh Steelers, Sun. Jan 10 2021 5:15 PM PST

This will definitely be one of the most popular games this weekend, if not surely the most popular game. There will definitely be some buzz around the Browns, who will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2002. It has been exciting for many fans to witness the turnaround of undoubtedly the worst modern football franchise. However, the Browns will be without their star offensive lineman Joel Bitonio as well as their head coach Kevin Stefanski along with the majority of the coaching staff due to COVID. So, unless the Browns can pull some magic out of their hats, it looks like the Steelers will be winning this one 28-20.

What about the entire playoff picture?

I’ll be going off my previous predictions to say that Super Bowl 55 will be the State Farm Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, who are not playing this weekend. After the wild card games, we move on to the divisional rounds:

  • The Bills will play and beat the Steelers
  • The Chiefs will play and beat the Titans, and move on the AFC Championship to play the Bills
  • The Seahawks will play and lose to the Saints, considering they have their RB’s by then.
  • The Buccaneers will play and lose to the Packers. Although the Packers did suffer an embarrassing defeat to the Bucs earlier in the season, remember this game will be played at Lambeau. Home-field advantage for the win!

In the AFC Championship, the Chiefs-Bills matchup will be an entertaining one, with the Chiefs edging the Bills. In the NFC, the Packers will beat the Saints with ease and move on to the Super Bowl to play the Chiefs. So who do I have winning it all? The Packers will be the champions. And I hope I do not look dumb in the coming weeks.
