ROP Medical Health teacher Mrs. Kayla Jimenez is preparing her patient care students for their assigned job sites.
In order to start working in any job site, there must be requirements to fulfill which include being CPR Certified, OSHA Certified, and BLS certified. The OSHA certification can be conquered by taking the 10-hour OSHA test and achieving a score of 80% or higher. Each student should know how to perform CPR, take basic vitals like body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation, and must also know how to report serious incidents to OSHA if they occurred within their workplace.
Each student will get to choose their own site out of the ones listed by Mrs. Jimenez. There are a few job sites available which include nursing homes, fire stations, and working in a hospital as a Nurse assistant. So far there hasn’t been any more sites to choose from, however, those who start working in the sites will work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during 5th and 6th period.
“This will be a great opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience with their preferred site,” said Jimenez.
Mrs. Jimenez mentioned, “Starting next year, students will go off to their sites and be required to wear scrubs the whole time.”
According to Jimenez, students will be going off to their sites in January of 2026 where those who are worried about transportation will be driven to their designated sites by a LBHS public bus. As for those who can drive, they will be given the responsibility to individually drive themselves to their site.
Students working in the hospital and nursing homes will be taking care of patients, taking their vitals, and carrying them from room to room depending on where they need to be. Though, those who choose to work in the firefighter site will learn to distinguish between fires and learn when to use certain types of fire extinguishers on the different types of fires.
