The Los Banos Tigers football team is now 3-1 on the season with a two game win streak. The Tigers recently played and defeated the Beyer Patriots on September 15, 2023.
When asked about what the game plan was going into the game, Coach Tyrell Jenkins, the Offensive Coordinator for the Tigers stated, “Our main plan was to throw the ball more so that we can establish our passing game for teams to see we are threats on the ground as well as in the air.”
The game started off great as the Tigers defense made the Patriots punt the ball on a three and out drive. The Tigers then went on to score on their first consecutive drive with a connection from quarterback David Herrera (12) and receiver Adam Aguilar (12) on a 33 yard touchdown reception. The Tigers offense scored on all but one drive throughout the first half and the defense allowed zero points. The score was 14-0 going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Tigers continued to roll on the Patriots both offensively and defensively. The Tigers offense went on to score three more touchdowns while the defense allowed no points at all. Aguilar had two touchdowns, Cade Torres (12) had one touchdown, and both Herrera and Joel Alvarenga (12) ran one in for touchdowns as well. The final score of the game was 33-0.
When asked about the defense’s performance and how they managed to keep the Beyer Patriots scoreless throughout the game, Torres, the starting safety for the Tigers defense said, “We had to make adjustments every drive rather than every quarter. Our team chemistry and discipline had a lot to do with our performance as well.”
The Tigers are now 2-0 in league and tied in first place with Lathrop and Johansen. They already played the Grace M. Davis Spartans for their homecoming game on September 22, 2023. The Tigers are hoping to keep the train rolling and go on to be undefeated for the second year in a row!
