The boys baseball teams played their last league game on May 1 against El Capitan High School at home. The same night, families and friends of the players celebrated the senior night as they competed in their last home game.
The night recognized the senior players for their dedication to the team and the memories they made throughout their baseball careers. Before the game, each senior shared speeches reflecting on their experiences growing up with baseball, their supporters and favorite memories made while playing for the school.
Varsity pitcher Jesse Vasquez(12) said, “Some of my underclassmen teammates showed strong emotion because I grew up playing baseball with them as well, knowing it’s coming to an end.”
One senior described feeling nervous before the game because it could be his last time playing on the home field. Once the game began, the nerves settled and the team focused on competing together one last time at home.
“Playing my last home game felt a little unreal and emotional since this is the only sport I played growing up,” Vasquez said.
Although the varsity team fell to El Capitan with a score of 0-5, the night was still meaningful for players, families and coaches. Senior Night served as a celebration of the senior players’ hard work and commitment to the baseball team throughout their high school careers.
The team later went to playoffs on May 6 at Central Catholic. The team fell to Central Catholic with a score of 0-6, ending the baseball season with a loss.
