This baseball season, senior Elijah Mejia is giving people a reason to pay attention. After playing the sport for seven years, he’s grown into an important player on the team and is now making a push to break the school’s home run record.
Mejia got into baseball because of his parents, who have always loved the game and wanted him to try it out. Over time, that turned into something more serious, and now he plays both pitcher and center field. Being able to play multiple positions has made him a valuable part of the team.
“I’ve been playing for about seven years,” Mejia said. “My parents have always loved baseball and wanted me to get into it.”
So far this season, Mejia has hit three home runs, which puts him halfway to the school record of six, set by Dustin Caropreso. With more games left in this season, he has a real chance to tie or even beat it. “I’m aiming to beat the home run record for the school,” Mejia said.
Teammates and coaches have noticed the effort he’s been putting in, and it’s starting to show during games. Every time he steps up to the plate, there’s a feeling that something big could happen.
As the season goes on, more people will be watching to see if Mejia can break the record. Either way, he’s already having a strong season and proving himself as a key player on the team.
