Gratien Indart is currently a junior who has been a member of the varsity boys tennis team since his freshman year. He also finds time to manage FFA and the high school Astronomy Club.
Being able to handle both sports and clubs is challenging as Indart said, “I have had to overcome different types of pressure and that can range from studying for a test last minute or having a hard deadline for a project but still getting it turned in on time.”
Meeting deadlines while having a full schedule is definitely a difficulty but that is one of the many challenges that have to be overcome as a student athlete.
Indart does think that with the challenges comes lessons to learn. He said, “The number one thing I have learned from being a student athlete is time management. You need to learn when and where to spend your time and energy, doing things like homework and practices.”
Time management is an important life skill that is a necessity in order to be successful, which is a pro of being a student athlete because you acquire that skill early on.
Indart believes there are lots of pros to being a student athlete, he said, “Yes, because it makes you a more organized person in your daily life, because if you can balance work, school, and sports you can manage anything in your busy life.”
Indart was given the opportunity to learn some of the many life skills that come with being a student athlete which gives him an advantage when it comes to graduating and moving on with life.
Participating in sports is always another way to gain knowledge and learn life lessons. Indart said, “My favorite part about being a student athlete is the sport itself as it motivates me to keep my grades up so I have something to look forward to after school like games and practices.”
Indart took the advantage that he was given by accepting all the knowledge he gained from the sport, teammates, and coaches that he chose to surround himself with leading him to be a successful student athlete.
