Lots of students listen to music while studying because it helps them focus and relax. The right music can make homework feel less stressful and help students study for longer.
Some students enjoy listening to artists like Drake, The Weeknd, and Kanye West. Their songs are considered hip hop, rap, R&B, and pop which the majority of students enjoy listening to. These artists usually have more beats in their songs that help students stay in a good mood while studying or doing assignments.
Bryan Jimenez (12) said, “I listen to Drake, Lil Wayne, and 21 Savage. I feel like the music just brings up my mood and makes studying less boring.”
Others prefer more soft music artists such as SZA, Billie Eilish, and Mac Demarco. Their music is a mix of R&B, Pop, and Indie Rock, which their music creates a calmer environment while doing assignments. Many students find that their music helps them stay calm and focused because it does not have loud or fast beats to distract them.
Alana Arnold (12) said, “I prefer listening to Jhene Akio, SZA, and Daniel Caesar. I like their music since it’s more simple rather than being super crazy.” Arnold also explained how she prefers to be in a calm mood while studying.
Another reason students listen to music while studying is because it blocks out any distractions or loud noises. They could be at home, in school, or with friends, and the music can help them ignore distractions and stay focused on studying. Some students even create a playlist specifically for studying.
Students also change what they listen to depending on their mood and what time it is during the day. During the day some may want to listen to some hype music, and late in the afternoon they may want to listen to something more soft. Having music playing can make studying feel less boring and makes the time go by quicker.
Everyone studies differently, so the music depends on the student. Some like calm and soft songs, while others like hype songs. Any music is great to listen to while studying as long as it helps the student feel more comfortable, focused, and ready to finish their work.
