Joining clubs, sports, and programs like AG can help students prepare for college and their future. Being involved in activities helps students make connections, learn important skills, and stand out when applying to colleges. I believe students should try to join at least one activity in high school because it can help them later in life. As Guadalupe Ruano (12) explains, “Leadership roles show colleges that you’re serious and committed.”
One big benefit of joining clubs or sports is that it helps with college applications. Colleges like to see students who are involved in school activities because it shows responsibility and commitment. Being part of clubs, sports teams, or AG programs can make a student stand out more compared to someone who is not involved.
Another benefit is making connections with people. When students join activities, they meet new friends, teachers, and advisors who can help them in the future. These connections can help students learn about opportunities, scholarships, and even future careers.
Knowing the right people can make a big difference later on. Jocelyn Gonzalez (12) shared that being in a club allowed her “to meet new people, get involved in activities that help improve the school, and build meaningful connections.”
Ms.San Juana Gonzalez, one of our academic counselors, added, “Students who get involved in clubs and programs not only build friendships, but also learn how to navigate opportunities that will help them succeed in college and beyond.”
Clubs and activities also help students learn skills they will use later in life. Students can learn teamwork, leadership, communication, and time management. Sports teach discipline and hard work, while clubs and AG programs teach responsibility and organization. These skills are important for both college and future jobs.
Being involved also helps students feel more connected to school. Instead of just going to class and going home, students become part of something. This can make school more enjoyable and help students stay motivated. As both students emphasized, Gonzalez and Ruano agreed, “Clubs are what you make of them,” showing that the effort students put in determines how much they gain from the experience.
Joining clubs, sports, AG, or other activities is a good way for students to prepare for their future. It helps students build connections, gain skills, and improve their chances of getting into college. Even though it may take extra time, the benefits make it worth it.
