With graduation in less than a month, many seniors are counting down the days to close this chapter of their lives. While one student is counting down the days to her new start at Fresno State University.
Angeline Tovar (12) has officially committed to Fresno State, where she plans to major in Animal Science turning her passion towards helping animals in the future.
She shared the decision making process and how she realized she wanted a higher education while still being close by home. She decided Fresno State offered her that perfect balance. Tovar also talked about the hands-on opportunities Fresno State can provide for her.
Her long term goal over the next couple of years is to complete her first two years at Fresno State, then transfer to UC Davis where she will earn her bachelor’s degree. Tovar then shares to “hopefully become a traveling vet surgeon.”
A big challenge Tovar faced was the financial concerns while applying, but she didn’t let that stop her, she talked about how her FAFSA helped her overcome that challenge.
Throughout the whole decision journey Tovar has had big support from her family. She said, “They were there for me through every step of the way, especially my sister who encouraged and helped guide me.”
Tovar thanks her high school experience for preparing her for college academically and mentally. Seeing the different ways in which a teacher teaches helped her understand possible things to expect in higher education.
She would also thank her coach Mr Borelli who she said, “helped me be determined and not quit when I wanted to,” and Mr. Miguel Herrera who “always encouraged me and told me to try new things out.”
Advice Tovar would like to give younger students who will be applying for college is to be prepared for anything and have an open mind to things. She also said, “Have fun and stay determined on your dream.”
Looking forward, she prepares to move to Fresno and is excited by the new opportunities ahead. If you see Tovar, congratulate her on her commitment to Fresno State University.
