Tanner Waltman (12) and the Los Banos Varsity Tigers played in the final game of the year on February 7 against Lathrop, which was also their Senior Night.
Waltman started the first quarter playing guard. He began hot going one-for-one from mid range while continuing to rebound throughout the game. Waltman racked up four rebounds while continuing to be a part of the passing game. When asked about his performance, Waltman stated, “I wish I did more on offense, but I was very happy with my defense and effort going after rebounds.”
Waltman also helped maintain the lead for the Tigers throughout the first half, but unfortunately, in the final stages, the Tigers could not pull through for the win as they lost 47-58.
For Senior Night, players were recognized and applauded for their accomplishments throughout their years with the team. Waltman stated, “Walking out with family for the final game was my favorite part of my Senior night. My family has watched me throughout my career, so it made me happy to be with them one last time on the court.”
Waltman has played basketball throughout his whole life earning a reputation for himself as a sharp shooter from the left side. He has worked hard throughout his career to fight for the win and get the job done. When asked about his final game, Waltman stated, “It felt a little sad knowing it was the last rodeo but relieving to be a part of the big and final game.”
As a freshman playing for Junior Varsity, and finally a Senior on the varsity team, Waltman has gone through the ups and downs of basketball. His advice for those who are still playing would be, “Even if you struggle and everything isn’t working out in your favor, give it your all and don’t take the moments you have for granted.” Although Waltman does not plan to pursue collegiate level basketball, he still plans to attend college. Waltman will still be around the game as he would like to watch his future college play.
