The girls tennis season is coming to a close, with their final league game being on Oct. 23. The team celebrated their seniors on Oct 21 with posters, baskets, and speeches.
Varsity player, Kambria Moore (12), recalled her experience at Senior Night. “I felt really overwhelmed but I also felt really loved by all the people who came and supported me. I was really looking forward to saying my speech and thanking everyone who came out,” she said.
Moore occupies the #5 singles position on the team, and has been playing tennis since her freshman year. She helped the team achieve a league record of 7-3 this season.
Although the league season is completed, the team placed second overall in Division 4, meaning they will face off in the first round of playoffs on Nov 3. Last year, the girls made it all the way to section finals, and placed 2nd.
When asked about her hopes for this year’s playoffs, Moore said, “My goals for playoffs are that we make it to the finals again for the third year in a row and we hope everyone works and plays super hard to be at that point again for my last year!”
Varsity player Evelyn García (11) chimes in with her confidence regarding the team’s playoff preparations. “The tennis team has been working together doing drills and participating in the CCC tournament.”
Our school was the host of the singles and doubles CCC tournament, both of which the team competed in. Gabby Romo (11), the number one player, and Melissa Fernandez (11), the number three player, won the doubles tournament on Oct. 30.
Garcia tells of the emotions that she felt having to say goodbye to her senior teammates. “Senior Night was very bittersweet for me as I’m never good with goodbyes and it feels so strange knowing I’m next up to celebrate it.”
Garcia has a few more weeks with her team, if they emerge victorious in each round of playoffs. We wish our girls luck to finish off their season strong!
