The Tigers girls basketball season is officially underway, and players are ready to take on this season with excitement and determination. With returning athletes and new challenges ahead, the team is focused on growth, teamwork, and energy.
Last year, the Tigers finished with an overall record of 17-10 and went 4-6 in league. The team faced ups and downs, but gained valuable experience that they hope will help them improve for this upcoming season.
Siena Freitas (11) is especially looking forward to facing stronger competition. “When it comes to sports, playing better teams will only benefit you, because playing someone better will make you better,” Freitas said.
Freitas hopes to make this her breakout season and to have stronger team chemistry and bonding this year. “If the energy on the team is low, it brings everyone down,” she said. “This season I will work hard on trying to keep good energy.”
Her favorite memory is the West Coast trip, where the team made it to the final round but fell just short to Granada, creating unforgettable moments along the way. “I hope to inspire younger girls just like the older girls inspired me,” Freitas said.
Senior Devanie Vargas is entering her final season with big goals. “A goal that I have is being more aggressive and not being scared,” Vargas said.
She hopes to leave her mark through leadership and motivation. “I want everyone to remember me as someone who gave full effort and made the season fun,” she said.
Her favorite memory is when her coach got hit in the head with the ball during practice. “We were all dying laughing, and then we had to run,” Vargas said.
Senior Katelyn Ramirez says this season feels like a fresh start. “Last year had its ups and downs, but this season feels like a clean slate,” Ramirez said.
Her goal is to play with confidence and not overthink mistakes. “It’s easy to get hyped when things are going well, but it’s different when the pressure hits,” she said.
Ramirez wants to make her senior year the best season yet. “I just want to play hard, have fun, and enjoy every moment while I still can,” she said.
Her favorite memory is last year’s West Coast Tournament. “I just want to be remembered as the fun teammate who kept the energy up,” Ramirez said.
With strong leadership and new energy, the Tigers are confident about the season ahead. “We have the talent,” Ramirez said. “We just have to bring the same energy every game.”
