After the first round of playoffs, the girls tennis season came to an end. The singles and doubles players gave it their full efforts on the Oakdale courts, but on November 3, 2025 their season ended.
Julianne Gurgen, ranked number two (11) stated, “Since the start of the league season, our girls tennis team has performed consistently and grown stronger with every match.”
Having the ability to communicate with teammates creates an incredible bond that is good for both the team and the players individually.
Gurgen said, “We’ve had a mix of tough battles and solid wins, but overall we’ve shown
steady improvement and each week our confidence and teamwork have continued to build.”
Building as a team and making connections upon each other helped them reach the achievement of making it to playoffs.
Pregame rituals are just as important as the game, as Gurgen said, “I tried to keep it the same for every match so I could start with a clear mind. It became a comforting part of my preparation.”
Strategies and rituals are a big part of sports and everyone has their own ways to focus, but Gurgen has adapted to new ones this season.
Gurgen said, “I’ve found new strategies to stay mentally strong, like focusing on one point at a time and taking deep breaths before serving.”
With Gurgen being an experienced player it gives the underclassmen the advantage of taking tips and tricks from her to better their efforts during matches.
The team was strong as Gurgen stated, “The team morale has stayed upbeat and supportive throughout the season, even with 32 players. Everyone encouraged each other and created a fun, competitive environment.”
Even with the strong bond the girls tennis team had this season, their season had come to an end but Gabby Romo (11) ranked number one, and Melissa Fernandez (11) ranked three had continued the season a bit further to partner together for the CCC doubles tournament and made it to sections but unfortunately lost at Johnson Green Roseville.
