League wrestling officially began on Jan 14 with the first league dual against El Capitan High School. The season will continue through the end of February with quad duals.
As competition continues, both the boys and girls teams have started the season undefeated. The strong start has set high expectations for the rest of league play.
“The season has been going great so far with girls and boys teams being undefeated,” said Samira Brown (12). She said setting goals has helped the team stay motivated.
Improvement remains a key focus as wrestlers balance training and competition. Athletes are working to develop their skills and stay consistent throughout the season.
Early practices pushed wrestlers to adjust to the physical demands of the sport. Conditioning required extra effort as the season progressed.
“The biggest challenge at the beginning of the season was the conditioning,” Brown said. She said working on breathing techniques outside the wrestling room helped her overcome it.
Match-day routines help athletes feel prepared and focused. These habits allow wrestlers to stay calm before stepping onto the mat.
“I listen to music and practice my takedowns and defense before a match,” Brown said. She said it helps her feel confident.
Team goals extend beyond individual matches as league play continues. Wrestlers are focused on long-term success and improvement.
“Our main goal is to keep improving and try to win sections to earn a blue banner,” said Angelina Borelli (12). She said the team continues to improve with every dual.
For seniors, the season brings reflection as their high school careers come to an end. The final matches hold special meaning.
“It’s really weird knowing this is my final high school season,” Borelli said. She said she is excited to continue wrestling at Menlo College.
